Hungarian Kifli are traditional crescent-shaped pastries made from a buttery, flaky dough, often filled with sweet fillings like walnut, poppy seed, or fruit preserves. These delicate treats are typically dusted with powdered sugar and are a beloved dessert or snack, especially during holidays and festive occasions

Hungarian Kifli

Recipe:
  • 1 batch = 1 dozen (we usually triple it)
    Dough:
    1/2 lb of butter, 1/2 lb Cream cheese, 3 cups of sifted flour, 1egg yolk, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tsp shortening
    Filling:
    12 tbsp ground find walnuts(4oz), 8oz jar apricot preserves, 4 tbsp breadcrumbs, 1/2 c sugar, 1 egg white, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/3 box very fine sugar ( to roll Kiefla in after you take it out of the oven)
Dough: Cream butter, add egg, shortening, and slowly mix in flour mix well.
Roll dough into balls size of walnuts
Cover dough. Refrigerate overnight or at least three hours
Filling: Take Dough out 1 hour before
Mix ingredients
Grease cookie sheets
Roll into rectangles
Put 3/4 tsp of filling on end and roll into a crescent shape
Bend the ends like a half moon
Take at least 20 minutes until light golden brown
Take out of oven and immediately roll in bowl of superfine sugar
If you tripled it it makes three dozen.
